Sierra Leone & Diaspora Family Verification

Diaspora Family Relationship Verification

Confidential, lawful support for families who need clarity before making major family, financial or immigration decisions.

Why this service exists

Family relationships can carry serious emotional, financial and immigration consequences. Where a potential parent is abroad and a child is in Sierra Leone, uncertainty can create pressure, confusion and costly decisions.

SL VERITAS provides confidential support for diaspora clients who need lawful, consent-based family relationship verification before taking major steps such as immigration sponsorship, long-term financial support, travel arrangements, inheritance planning or family reunification.

We do not carry out DNA laboratory testing ourselves. We help clients understand the process, gather the right information, avoid unsafe shortcuts, and where appropriate, connect with suitable legal, immigration-grade or accredited DNA testing providers.

Who this service is for

01

Diaspora parents

A potential father or parent may be in the UK, Europe, USA or elsewhere, while the child is in Sierra Leone.

02

Immigration preparation

Families may want to confirm a biological relationship before beginning visa, sponsorship or family reunification steps.

03

Financial decisions

A client may be asked to provide long-term financial support and wants proper verification before making serious commitments.

04

Relationship disputes

There may be uncertainty around paternity, maternity, siblingship or another family relationship.

05

Evidence over rumours

The client wants a more reliable process than community pressure, informal claims or private accusations.

06

Correct test route

The family needs help understanding whether private, legal or immigration-grade DNA testing is the right route.

Our role

Initial case assessment

We review the situation confidentially and identify what type of relationship needs to be verified.

Consent and safety screening

We explain why all testing must be lawful, consent-based and properly documented.

Document preparation

We help clients prepare key information such as names, dates of birth, locations, identity documents and relationship details.

Testing route guidance

We help clients understand the difference between private peace-of-mind testing, legal DNA testing and immigration-grade testing.

Provider referral or coordination

Where appropriate, we help clients approach suitable DNA testing providers that can advise on collection arrangements in different countries.

Result explanation and next steps

Once a result is received from the testing provider, we can help the client understand what it means and what practical steps may follow.

Private, legal and immigration-grade testing

Private DNA testing

Usually used for personal knowledge. It may be cheaper and quicker, but may not be accepted for official use.

Legal DNA testing

Usually involves verified identity, witnessed sample collection and chain-of-custody procedures. This may be suitable where a result may later be used in legal or official settings.

Immigration-grade DNA testing

Usually requires stricter procedures and must be suitable for visa, embassy or immigration-related evidence. Requirements may depend on the authority requesting the evidence.

Important legal and ethical boundaries

SL VERITAS does not support covert DNA testing, stolen samples, forced testing, deception, harassment or public exposure.

All parties must be treated with dignity. Where a child is involved, the child’s welfare and lawful consent arrangements are central.

We do not guarantee that a DNA result will be accepted by a court, embassy, immigration authority or government department. Acceptance depends on the testing provider, the purpose of the test, the collection process and the requirements of the authority involved.

Common questions

Can SL VERITAS do the DNA test directly?

No. SL VERITAS is not a DNA laboratory. We provide confidential case assessment, guidance, documentation support and referral or coordination with appropriate testing providers where suitable.

Can the father be tested in the UK while the child is in Sierra Leone?

In some cases, this may be possible through a provider that can arrange proper sample collection in more than one country. The exact options depend on the provider, the country, consent, identity documents and the purpose of the test.

Can I use a home DNA kit for immigration?

A home DNA kit may not be suitable for immigration or official use. Immigration or legal matters usually require stronger identity verification and chain-of-custody procedures.

Can testing be done without the mother knowing?

We do not assist with covert or deceptive testing. All testing must be lawful, consent-based and properly documented.

What if the other party refuses to cooperate?

We can discuss lawful options and practical next steps, but we cannot force anyone to provide a sample unless there is a lawful court or official process requiring it.

Is this service only for fathers?

No. The service can assist with paternity, maternity, siblingship and other biological relationship questions, depending on the situation and the testing provider’s capabilities.
