Terms of Service
These Terms explain the rules that apply when you use the SL VERITAS website, submit an enquiry, use the AI Risk Check, request verification support, or instruct us to provide investigation-related services.
Please read these Terms carefully before using our services. By using this website, submitting information, using the AI Risk Check, or requesting paid services, you agree to these Terms.
Who we are
SL VERITAS provides discreet, evidence-based verification, risk review, due diligence, and investigation-support services connected to Sierra Leone.
For the purposes of these Terms, “SL VERITAS”, “we”, “us” or “our” means:
SL VERITAS was formerly known as Sierra Leone Investigation. References to SL VERITAS include the current trading identity of the service.
Scope of these Terms
These Terms apply to:
- use of our website;
- use of our AI Risk Check or any automated advisory tool;
- submission of enquiries, forms, messages, screenshots, documents, images, or other materials;
- requests for investigation, verification, due diligence, welfare, family, relationship, property, land, document, claim, or identity-related support;
- paid or unpaid reports, summaries, risk indicators, findings, or advisory outputs; and
- any communication with us connected to a possible or confirmed instruction.
If a separate written agreement, quotation, engagement note, or scope document is issued for a specific matter, that document will apply alongside these Terms. If there is a conflict, the specific written agreement or scope document will take priority for that matter.
Important limitations
SL VERITAS provides verification, risk assessment, factual review, and practical next-step guidance.
We do not provide:
- legal advice;
- immigration advice;
- financial advice;
- insurance advice;
- medical advice;
- counselling or therapeutic support;
- law-enforcement services;
- guaranteed surveillance;
- guaranteed evidence collection;
- guaranteed confirmation of any fact; or
- guaranteed outcomes.
SL VERITAS does not provide regulated legal, immigration, financial, insurance, medical, therapeutic, or law-enforcement services. If your matter requires regulated professional advice, court action, immigration advice, police involvement, safeguarding action, or urgent protection, you should contact the appropriate qualified professional or authority.
Not an emergency service: SL VERITAS is not an emergency service. If there is immediate danger, violence, abuse, exploitation, child safeguarding risk, medical emergency, risk to life, or an urgent criminal matter, you should contact the police, emergency services, safeguarding services, or another appropriate authority without delay.
Our role is to help assess information, identify risk indicators, verify facts where possible, and provide a structured view of what is known, what appears inconsistent, what remains unknown, and what may require further checking.
You should not treat any output from SL VERITAS as a substitute for professional legal, immigration, financial, safeguarding, medical, or law-enforcement advice.
Eligibility and lawful use
You must only use our website and services for lawful purposes.
By using our website or services, you confirm that:
- you are at least 18 years old;
- the information you provide is true to the best of your knowledge;
- you are not using our service to harass, stalk, intimidate, threaten, defame, blackmail, exploit, or unlawfully monitor anyone;
- you will not misuse any report, risk indication, or finding;
- you will not ask us to obtain information unlawfully;
- you will not submit material you have obtained unlawfully; and
- you will comply with all applicable laws.
We may refuse, suspend, or terminate any enquiry or instruction if we reasonably believe the request is unlawful, unsafe, abusive, misleading, outside our scope, or inconsistent with these Terms.
AI Risk Check
The AI Risk Check is a first-pass advisory screening tool. It may review messages, screenshots, profile information, documents, images, or other submitted material for possible risk indicators.
The AI Risk Check is not a full investigation. It does not prove fraud, wrongdoing, identity, relationship status, ownership, location, intention, or truth. It is designed to help you decide whether further human review or verification may be appropriate.
AI Risk Check outputs may include:
- possible red flags;
- possible consistency issues;
- possible missing information;
- possible next questions;
- general cautionary guidance; and
- suggestions for deeper verification.
AI outputs may be incomplete, incorrect, or affected by the quality of the information submitted. You must not rely on AI Risk Check output as a final decision, legal conclusion, or definitive finding.
Where a matter is serious, sensitive, urgent, or potentially harmful, you should seek appropriate professional, legal, safeguarding, or emergency support.
Investigation and verification services
Our paid or manually reviewed services may include, depending on the agreed scope:
- relationship or romance-risk verification;
- identity and background consistency checks;
- property or land verification;
- family relationship verification;
- welfare or wellbeing checks;
- missing person or family tracing support;
- document or claim verification;
- due diligence enquiries;
- OSINT-style review of publicly available information;
- field enquiries through appropriate local contacts or agents;
- structured reports; and
- practical next-step guidance.
The exact work to be carried out will depend on the information available, the location, safety considerations, lawful access, cooperation of third parties, and the scope agreed with you.
Before paid work begins, SL VERITAS may issue a quotation, payment link, scope summary, engagement note, or written confirmation. You are responsible for checking that the scope accurately reflects the work you want. Work outside the agreed scope may require a further quotation and payment.
We will provide paid services with reasonable care and skill. Where no specific completion date has been agreed, we will aim to perform the service within a reasonable time, taking account of the nature of the enquiry, location, access, safety, third-party cooperation, field availability, and the agreed scope.
We reserve the right to decline any request that is unsafe, unlawful, unethical, disproportionate, outside our capability, or inconsistent with our policies.
Client responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- providing accurate information;
- correcting any inaccurate information as soon as possible;
- telling us about any urgency, risk, violence, safeguarding concern, police involvement, court proceedings, or legal restriction;
- not withholding information that may affect the safety or lawfulness of the work;
- not asking us to impersonate, deceive, threaten, unlawfully access data, or obtain information through improper means;
- using any report or output responsibly;
- not publishing or sharing sensitive material irresponsibly;
- paying any agreed fees when due; and
- ensuring that payments are made using the correct payment link, invoice details, case reference, enquiry reference, or payment reference supplied by SL VERITAS.
You must not use another client’s reference or ask another person to pay without making the correct case reference clear.
If you provide false, incomplete, misleading, or unlawfully obtained information, our findings may be affected and we may suspend or end the instruction.
Accuracy of information supplied by clients
Our work depends on the information supplied to us. We may rely on names, dates, locations, phone numbers, images, documents, screenshots, messages, account details, and timelines provided by you.
We are not responsible for errors, delay, inconclusive findings, or incorrect assumptions caused by inaccurate, incomplete, altered, misleading, or outdated information supplied by you or by third parties.
If we identify inconsistencies or uncertainties, we may record them in our report.
No guarantee of outcome
We do not guarantee that:
- a person will be found;
- a relationship concern will be proved or disproved;
- fraud will be proved or disproved;
- ownership will be confirmed;
- a document will be verified;
- a witness or third party will cooperate;
- a location will be safely accessible;
- evidence will be available;
- a result will be favourable to you; or
- the investigation will produce a conclusive answer.
An inconclusive result does not mean the service was defective. Some matters cannot be safely, lawfully, or reliably verified.
Reports, findings and evidence
Where a report or summary is provided, it may include:
- information supplied by you;
- information obtained from lawful enquiries;
- publicly available information;
- field observations;
- photographs or records where lawful and appropriate;
- risk indicators;
- inconsistencies;
- limitations;
- unresolved issues; and
- practical next steps.
Reports are prepared for the client who instructed us, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
You must not alter a report, remove context, misrepresent our findings, or present an advisory risk indication as a proven fact.
Unless expressly agreed, reports are not prepared as expert evidence for court proceedings. If you require a court-ready report, witness statement, evidential bundle, or litigation-support document, this must be agreed separately.
Evidence handling and lawful limits
We will not knowingly obtain information through unlawful means.
We will not knowingly assist with:
- hacking;
- unlawful surveillance;
- unlawful interception of communications;
- impersonation for unlawful purposes;
- unauthorised access to private accounts;
- bribery;
- threats;
- blackmail;
- harassment;
- unlawful tracking; or
- misuse of private or confidential data.
Where evidence is unavailable, unsafe to collect, disproportionate, or legally restricted, we may decline to obtain it or record the limitation in our report.
Fees, quotations and payment
Some services may be free, including any free first-pass AI Risk Check we choose to offer.
Paid work will be subject to a quotation, agreed fee, payment link, invoice, or written confirmation before work begins.
Payments may be processed through Stripe or another payment provider notified to you at the time of payment. Payment providers may process payment information under their own terms and privacy notices.
Full payment must be received, cleared, processed, and matched to the correct case reference, enquiry reference, invoice number, or payment reference before any paid investigation, verification, field enquiry, report preparation, or other paid work will commence, unless SL VERITAS has expressly agreed otherwise in writing.
Where a case reference number, enquiry reference, invoice number, or payment reference has been issued, you must include that reference with all payments and payment-related communications. This is required for security, audit, reconciliation, client protection, and to reduce the risk of payment being misallocated or linked to the wrong matter.
If a payment is received without the correct reference, work may be delayed while we verify the payment and match it to the correct enquiry or case. SL VERITAS is not responsible for delays caused by missing, incorrect, incomplete, or unclear payment references.
If you believe a payment has been taken incorrectly, duplicated, misallocated, or charged in error, you should contact SL VERITAS promptly so the issue can be reviewed. Nothing in these Terms removes any statutory right you may have to dispute a payment with your bank, card issuer, Stripe, or another payment provider.
Fees may depend on complexity, urgency, location, field-agent requirements, safety considerations, document volume, report format, translation or interpretation needs, travel or local costs, and whether further enquiries become necessary.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, paid work will not begin until full payment has been received, cleared, processed, and matched to the relevant case or enquiry.
We may charge separately for additional work outside the original agreed scope.
Consumer cancellation rights
If you are a consumer and you buy services from us online or at a distance, you may have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of the contract being made.
However, where you ask us to begin providing a service during the 14-day cancellation period, you may be required to pay for work already carried out before cancellation.
By requesting that we begin work urgently or within the 14-day cancellation period, you agree that we may start work before the cancellation period expires.
If the service has been fully performed with your express request and acknowledgement, your right to cancel may be lost once performance is complete.
For digital content or digital outputs, different rules may apply where digital content is supplied during the cancellation period with your express consent and acknowledgement.
Cancellation by you
You may cancel an instruction by contacting us in writing at admin@slveritas.aparentslove.co.uk.
Please include:
- your name;
- the email address used for the enquiry;
- the service requested;
- the date of payment, if any;
- the reason for cancellation, if you wish to give one;
- any reference number we provided; and
- any Stripe payment details or payment reference needed to safely identify the correct payment and matter.
Example cancellation wording
To cancel, you may email admin@slveritas.aparentslove.co.uk using the following wording:
“I wish to cancel my instruction with SL VERITAS.
Name:
Email used for the enquiry:
Case/enquiry reference:
Service requested:
Payment date:
Stripe/payment reference, if available:
Reason for cancellation, optional:”
You do not have to use this exact wording, but you must provide enough information for SL VERITAS to identify the correct enquiry, case, and payment safely.
If paid work has not started, you may be entitled to a full or partial refund depending on the circumstances.
If work has already started, we may deduct a reasonable amount for work carried out, time spent, third-party costs, field costs, administrative costs, or non-refundable expenses already incurred.
Cancellation or refusal by SL VERITAS
We may cancel, refuse, suspend, or end an instruction where:
- the request appears unlawful, unsafe, abusive, or unethical;
- the information supplied appears false, misleading, or incomplete;
- the work would create unacceptable risk;
- third-party cooperation or access is unavailable;
- payment is not received, cleared, processed, or correctly matched;
- you breach these Terms;
- you ask us to misuse data or evidence;
- you behave abusively toward us or any person connected to the work;
- the matter falls outside our scope; or
- continuing would be inappropriate.
If we cancel after payment, we will consider whether a refund or partial refund is appropriate, taking account of work already carried out and costs already incurred.
Refunds
Refunds are assessed fairly and case by case.
Where you are legally entitled to cancel a consumer distance contract, any refund due will be made within the timeframe required by law.
For other refunds, discretionary refunds, goodwill refunds, partial refunds, or refunds following internal review, we aim to process any approved refund within 20 working days.
You will not automatically be entitled to a refund simply because:
- the result is inconclusive;
- the findings are not what you hoped for;
- the evidence does not support your suspicion;
- a third party refuses to cooperate;
- information is unavailable;
- lawful access is restricted;
- a field visit does not confirm the matter; or
- you later decide you no longer need the service after work has started.
Where a refund is due, we will normally process it using the original payment method where possible. Refund timing may also depend on Stripe, your bank, card issuer, or other payment provider processing times.
Nothing in these Terms reduces any statutory rights you have as a consumer.
Confidentiality
We treat client enquiries as confidential.
We will not knowingly publish or disclose your private enquiry except where:
- you have authorised disclosure;
- disclosure is necessary to carry out the agreed work;
- disclosure is required by law;
- disclosure is necessary to prevent harm, fraud, abuse, or unlawful conduct;
- disclosure is required for payment, administration, professional advice, insurance, or dispute handling;
- disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, safety, or legal position; or
- information is already lawfully public.
You must also treat reports, communications, and sensitive information supplied by us as confidential unless we agree otherwise or disclosure is required by law.
Data protection and privacy
We handle personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
You should read our Privacy Policy before submitting personal data, third-party data, sensitive information, images, documents, or screenshots.

Because some services may involve sensitive information, special care may be required.
By submitting information about another person, you confirm that you have a lawful and legitimate reason to do so and that you are not submitting it for harassment, abuse, unlawful monitoring, or any improper purpose.
Sensitive, special category and third-party data
You must not submit sensitive personal data unless it is genuinely relevant to the enquiry.
Sensitive information may include information about:

We may refuse to process sensitive data if it is unnecessary, excessive, unsafe, or outside the agreed scope.
Where a matter involves children, vulnerable people, safeguarding, violence, threats, coercion, exploitation, or immediate danger, you should contact the appropriate emergency, safeguarding, legal, or statutory authority.
Children and vulnerable people
Our services are not intended for use by children.
If an enquiry concerns a child or vulnerable person, you must tell us clearly at the outset.
We may refuse or restrict work involving children or vulnerable people unless we are satisfied that the request is lawful, proportionate, safe, and in the person’s best interests.
We may take appropriate steps if we believe there is a serious risk of harm.

You must not use our website, AI Risk Check, reports, or services to:

You must not use SL VERITAS to monitor, control, pressure, shame, expose, or intimidate a current partner, former partner, spouse, family member, employee, debtor, witness, vulnerable person, or child. We may refuse or terminate any request that appears connected to stalking, coercive control, domestic abuse, revenge, blackmail, harassment, or unsafe confrontation.
We may report serious misuse where appropriate.
Client conduct
You must communicate with us respectfully.
We may end communication or terminate an instruction if you:
- abuse, threaten, harass, or intimidate us or anyone acting for us;
- pressure us to act unlawfully;

- attempt to influence or manipulate the report improperly;
- misuse our service; or
- create safety concerns.
Intellectual property
The website, branding, text, design, reports, templates, processes, workflows, and other materials created by SL VERITAS belong to SL VERITAS or our licensors, unless otherwise stated.
You may use a report supplied to you for your own personal or agreed purpose.
You must not copy, resell, publish, adapt, redistribute, or commercially exploit our website content, reports, templates, or methods without written permission.
You must not remove branding, disclaimers, limitations, or context from a report.
Website availability and third-party services
We aim to keep the website available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access.
The website may be unavailable because of maintenance, hosting issues, security checks, third-party service failures, technical errors, or events outside our control.
We may use third-party services such as hosting providers, Stripe or other payment processors, email providers, analytics, spam prevention, security tools, AI tools, and document-handling systems.
We are not responsible for third-party websites or services linked from our website.
Security
You must not misuse the website by introducing viruses, malware, automated scraping, denial-of-service attacks, unauthorised access attempts, or any harmful technology.
We may block, restrict, or report activity that appears malicious, abusive, automated, or unsafe.
Liability limits
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Subject to that, SL VERITAS is not responsible for:
- losses caused by inaccurate or incomplete information you provide;
- decisions you make after receiving an advisory output or report;
- emotional distress caused by discovering information;
- third-party conduct;
- inconclusive results;
- loss of opportunity;
- loss of profit, business, revenue, goodwill, or anticipated savings;
- indirect or consequential loss;
- misuse of our reports by you or others;
- delays caused by third parties, travel, access, safety, or communication issues;
- matters outside the agreed scope; or
- circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Where you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected. Nothing in these Terms reduces any statutory rights you have as a consumer.
Your responsibility for decisions
You remain responsible for decisions you make.
You should not confront, threaten, accuse, expose, publish, travel, send money, enter a contract, end a relationship, begin legal action, or take any serious step based only on an AI Risk Check or preliminary review.
Where the issue is serious, you should obtain appropriate professional advice before acting.
Force majeure and events outside our control
We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, including:
- illness;

Complaints should be sent to complaints@slveritas.aparentslove.co.uk.
Please include:
- your name;
- your enquiry or case reference;
- what went wrong;
- what outcome you are seeking; and
- any supporting information.
We aim to acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and provide a substantive response within 20 working days where possible. Complex complaints, complaints involving third parties, payment checks, field enquiries, data protection issues, or legal concerns may take longer. If more time is needed, we will aim to explain why.
Disputes
We will try to resolve disputes fairly and directly.
SL VERITAS may receive enquiries from clients worldwide and may provide services connected to Sierra Leone or other relevant locations where lawful and practical.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in another country apply and cannot legally be excluded.
The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, unless you are a consumer and mandatory law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
The Terms in force at the time you request or purchase a service will normally apply to that service unless a later agreement is made.

Worldwide enquiries and Sierra Leone-related services
SL VERITAS may receive enquiries from clients worldwide.
Our services are designed primarily for matters connected to Sierra Leone, including relationship concerns, family verification, welfare checks, property or land matters, document and claim verification, background checks, and due diligence support.
Where enquiries involve overseas clients, overseas evidence, Sierra Leone-based field enquiries, or cross-border information, the work will depend on what is lawful, safe, proportionate, and practical in the relevant location.
We do not promise that any enquiry can be carried out in every country or location. We may refuse, limit, suspend, or end work where local law, safety, access, data protection, third-party refusal, or practical conditions make the work unsuitable.
Paid service urgent-start consent
Where paid work is requested during a consumer cancellation period, SL VERITAS may require you to tick or confirm the following before work begins:
Checkbox wording:
I request SL VERITAS to begin work before the end of the 14-day cancellation period. I understand that if I cancel after work has started, I may need to pay for work already carried out and costs already incurred. I also understand that if the service is fully performed with my express request and acknowledgement, my right to cancel may be lost once performance is complete.
If you do not give urgent-start consent, we may wait until the cancellation period has ended before starting paid work, unless another lawful basis for starting applies.
Start with clarity and the right scope.
If you are unsure whether your matter is suitable for SL VERITAS, start with the AI Risk Check or request confidential support.
